Patteh Embroidered Jewellery Workshop with Mitra Freeman (Sunday 11.05.25)
£15.00
Join Mitra for a workshop embroidering felt hair grip or broach using the traditions of Iranian Patteh (پته). This traditional embroidery style from the southern province of Kerman (کرمان) has been handed down from mother to daughter and in Mitra's case handed down by her Grandmother, Mamanjan, a skilled Patteh embroiderer.
The symbol of an eye is rooted in Persian culture, and the belief that a person can unintentionally cause harm or bad luck to another through a glance, especially if that glance is imbued with envy or admiration. This belief is widespread in Iran and other Persian-influenced cultures.
In this workshop you will learn how to embroider your very own eye shaped talisman hair clip or broach to ward off the “evil eye” known as Zakhm e Cheshm (چشم زخم) in Farsi.
The workshop will take place on Sunday 11.05.25 from 10am to 1pm @ Cardiff M.A.D.E. Materials and Refreshments all included in the ticket price.
